In your face last year me!

2012 is almost over and it's been an incredible year!  I only started
The Cinnamon Slipper in April but I feel a celebration is in order. My blog hasn't even been going for a year yet and I already feel an enormous sense of achievement. It's been my creative outlet and my online fashion diary and so many magical things have happened since it started: here's a mashup of some of my favourite outfits/posts from each month.

It would appear I had a favourite pose in the first couple of months ha ha! What can I say? If it's a good angle and works for you why not?

Some months it was so hard to single out one outfit but these made the cut.

I would like to take the time to wish you all a very happy new year and hope that it may bring you and your loved ones all the very best love, luck, health and happiness. I know for some people it's been a difficult year (I for one can most definitely vouch for that!) but with the lows also come the highs.
I have had some truly amazing experiences this year and I think it's important to remember and be grateful for the good times as well as the bad.
As Monica says in 'Friends'
I can only pray that this next year can top it....I have lots of exciting goals I want to achieve in 2013; resolutions I don't believe in....it's all about having goals and creating a new vision board.

I picked this dress up in the sales....and it's the only thing I allowed myself to get as it can get a little silly impulse-buying (often for the sake of it just because things are cheap!) so I was quite self-restrained! I wanted to buy this originally when it was full price at Topshop but I waited and it paid off! Lo and behold it was the last in store, I randomly found it in my size hiding amongst the trousers section! Hurrah!
Here's a instagram round up of the last day or so.
  • A dinosaur birthday card I painted for Jon.
  • An outfit I wore that I didn't have time to stop and blog.
  • and....2013 excitement.

Happy New Year to you and your loved ones.
Thanks for reading as always.

xx Rebecca

Let's make 2013 a bangin' year.....did I just say bangin'?...... yeah I did.

Keep the change you filthy animal..

Christmas has officially been and gone and it was such a magical day. I spent this Christmas with Jon and his family and it was really a day to remember...I was writing in my diary that night and as I sat on the bed thinking over what we'd done, I realised just how much fun and laughter we'd had all day long! What I can't get over is the weeks and weeks of build up and hype, the TV adverts, hearing Christmas songs in shops in August...then it's completely over and done with in a few hours, everyone forgets Christmas and goes New Years Eve c-c-ccrazy!

Christmas for me this year was filled with lots of games, activities, singing, and lots and lots of laughing and- I'm pleased to say- not once did we put on the TV to watch any of the Christmas programmes. (A first for me!) I must admit though I was a little gutted when I realised I missed playing the moustache game with the Queens Speech! It was worth it though, especially playing 'Spronkers' in the garage!

"What the heck is spronkers?" I hear you ask! Well.....it's basically like playing conkers but with sprouts! I was playing Brian (Jon's daddy) and was doing pretty well until one fatal slow-motion blow from Brian's sprout cost me the semi-final!.....gutted.
I was lucky enough to receive some truly special gifts from my loved ones. My sister Amber gave me her sewing machine, books and sewing kit so I can kick start my 2013 mission to make my own clothes! That will be my next venture on The Cinnamon Slipper...so excited, but I'm almost resigned to the fact that for the first few attempts I'm going to look like 'that crazy girl who makes her own clothes'!
I got lots of things: new slippers (see above!), a diary, a Paul Hollywood cookbook (LOVE him!), penguin mittens, a beautiful vintage cake stand made by Brian himself (which I completely adore), an epic photo story book made by Jon, a penguin broach, a Geisha Umbrella.....just to name a few!  I will no doubt feature my lovely gifts in a future posts...keep your eyes out especially for my penguin mittens!
This is a little christmas-mash-up of Jonathan playing the guitar while we sang christmas carols, my beautiful new vintage cake stand, opening gifts, and well....you know being excited and happy.....

Hoping you all had a spiffing Christmas!

lots of sweet cinnamon

The little yellow door

I can't quite believe it's only a few days till the big day! This month has flown by and before  we know it we'll be writing our new year's resolutions and 2013 will be upon us. I finished all of my christmas shopping yesterday and it's all wrapped up and sitting under the tree. I can now kick back, relax and enjoy my journey back home to Bristol tomorrow visiting my family. Yay!! It's been too long!
I fell in love with this house the other day. We went for a little walk and found a listed cottage with a quaint little yellow door and ivy covered walls.  "I would love to live in house like that", I said "Isn't it gorgeous? I bet the people who live there are really lovely!" Jon remained unconvinced: "If we're gonna take photos we're gonna have to be quick because the people that live there are complete w*nkers!" ha ha. To cut a long story short, he used to do a paper round when he was younger and apparently the people that lived in this beautiful, idylic, dream house were absolutely terrible to him! ha ha!
I always imagined the people who live there must bake cakes all day long in a house smelling of apple pie and cinnamon, tending their garden in the summer and jovially greeting their neighbours on spring mornings as they make their way to the local bakery to buy bread for their saturday morning toast...according to Jon they never gave him apple pie, tended to shun their neighbours and were rarely- if ever- jovial...their garden DID look lovely though!
Blimey I need to dye my hair again! ha ha
This is a new dress I got the other week from Topshop for mine and Jon's anniversary; I wanted a new dress to wear (any excuse for a new dress!) to celebrate the fact that three years and a few days ago me and my beloved man first started seeing each other. Whilst I know this is a fashion blog, this is also a fashion/style/my life blog as well.
So let's turn the camera around for moment on the man himself: Jon!
I have been reluctant to reveal photos on The Cinnamon Slipper of my beautiful man till now as it is incredibly personal, but given we celebrated our third anniversary the other day, this blog would not be at all possible without his constant help, support and inspiration.
He takes all my photos, puts up with my crazy shenanigans like going to laundrettes, standing in the Sea, traipsing among corn fields
(feel free to click and see!) and why does he do this? All for me.
I would just like to say thank you!
He reads every single post on my blog and proof reads and sifts through all the crap and ramblings I go on about
(you think this is a rambling you should see what I write before he edits it!).
Here he is! My Jonathan, my best friend, my boyfriend, my soul mate that I found in the toy department in Harrods all those years ago. Who would of thought I would find the love of my life in a toy shop while I was selling nail varnish pens?! I guess it was fate. I nearly didn't go to work there and almost accepted a job elsewhere and low and behold my first day of working there I was painting my nails....and something told me to look up and there he was! He smiled and said hello to me, 'the new girl', and it was love at first sight. I instantly had butterflies.
I never really believed in the whole 'love-at-first-sight' thing and I was a bit of a commitment phobic prior to him (after a major heartbreak) but with Jon it was magical the moment we first kissed. We moved in together straight away and fell in love within a matter of days.
I do feel incredibly blessed to have him in my life and here's us toasting to our first three years of many.
We ate tapas in our favourite Wahaca...yep, that was our table!
A VW camper van! How cool?!
I would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas!

*Cinnamon Spotlight* a date with Pixie Late

It's December and that means it time for another Cinnamon Spotlight.  If you're new to the The Cinnamon Slipper the fashion spotlight is a feature devoted to someone else's individual style.  The last- and first- fashion spotlight with the fabulous Liam (click here!) was a trial and turned out to be incredibly successful, remaining one of the most read posts ever.

I am extremely pleased to announce that I have the absolute pleasure of London's very own Lolita Fashionista Pixie Late for December's Fashion Spotlight, celebrating her style, her fashion and what makes her so fabulous and so unique!
If you're already a fan of hers (I know I am....just look at her!) or have always been intrigued by this kind of style, this girl is complete perfection in the world of Lolita Fashion. Not quite sure what Lolita fashion is? Well just click here....to read an older post with a little bit of a lowdown.
she made that hat herself!!!!
First up Name/location/occupation?
Pixie Late, London, Show organiser/model

Where did the name Pixie Late originate from?
It's a combination of my interests at the time really. A lot of people call me pixie or fairy growing up and I was studying Graphic Design, which led me to think of the word 'pixelate'. It's a long-winded explanation but there we go! My friends sometimes jokes about it and say that it's because I'm small and always late…hence Pixie Late hmmmmm….
Describe your personal style:
My personal style (even before I got into Lolita fashion) have always been girly or flirty even though it was much less extravagant compared to Lolita. This is why I love the more modern Japanese street styles like "Himekaji gal" for everyday wear.
Who for you is your fashion icon?
I love Grace Kelly's elegant style and Brigitte Bardot's hairstyles (she has such thick hair!)

Any secret talents?
Hmm talents…I don't know if I call them talents but I'm a figure skater, I love dancing, singing and playing musical instruments. I am currently trying out electric guitar, all I need is an amp because strumming to songs acoustically can be kind of boring!

How long have you been dressing in Lolita?
About 3 years now!
When was it when you first came across Lolita as a style
and what was it that attracted you to it?
I suppose initially I was intrigued by how different it looks from other types of fashion out there and loved that this particular fashion seems to regress back to old fashioned styles like the Rococo or Victorian era. I'm particularly fond of 18th century fine and decorative arts so this style seems like the perfect choice at the time.
What are the ultimate do's and don't when it comes to dressing in 'Lolita'?
Always feel comfortable and confident when wearing it. There is nothing worse than feeling bad about what you're wearing because it shows. I'm am going to say the typical advice "always wear a petticoat" if you are trying to achieve the Lolita look because it is what makes Lolita what it is. But note that this does not mean that people can't wear items from Lolita brands in a non-Lolita way. At the end of the day fashion evolves and rules in fashion will be bent so just try out what works for you individually and what makes you happy.
Tips to finding the perfect wig?
I think you need to try on a few different styles to see which one suits you the best to be honest! How about try tailoring it to what kind of look you're going for? I think hair is such an important feature to your looks and it really adds to your coordination so a little thought would come in handy when dressing in any type of fashion. If you're going for the natural look then why not use your own hair even, on that note I actually have many people telling me that my real hair looks like a wig!
Now you have your own shop 'Pixie Bunny' tell me a little bit more about it!.....
Pixie Bunny (www.pixiebunny.com) is a brand new beauty and fashion shop tailored to those who wants to get some of the 'kawaii' look I've been sporting for the past three years. We carry 100% genuine quality Japanese lashes and tights and we will be getting up to date fashion items from Japan. I'm so thrilled I can open this shop because it's another way of me sharing my love for 'kawaii' style with my friends and followers.
Favourite/Must have item in 'Pixie Bunny'?....
It's all about quality lower lashes and Mameshiba x Kyary Pamyu Pamyu tights! It's hard to source good quality Japanese lower lashes and our limited edition Mameshi Pamyu Pamyu tights are very popular! Actually I am doing a Christmas sale from the 14th - 17th of December so don't miss out!
You can check out Pixie Bunny's Facebook page for the link or just go straight to the online shop!! (links at the bottom!)
Favourite fashion season spring, summer, autumn or winter?
I love Winter and Summer! Summer for the pretty and flirty summer dresses and Winter for all the fluffy earmuffs and mitts.

Your favourite item of clothing in your wardrobe?
I don't know this is difficult…but for this season my favourite item should be BABY the star shines bright white bunny mini cape. It's soft, fluffy, cute and it keeps me warm.

Makeup essentials?
Eyeliner, lashes and blusher for me! I'm very pale so a blusher is a must have for me.
I must say you are INCREDIBLY photogenic! what are your secrets to your adorable poses? what tips would you give?
Haha thank you! Hmm I actually feel awkward most of the time but I guess I'm used to it now? I would say smile and think of something (or someone) cute. That probably didn't help at all but that's what I do during shoots. I usually think about my pet rabbits!

Biggest shopping weakness?
Shopping IS my weakness…
If money was no object what would you buy?
A castle and I would fill it with pretty dresses, shoes and art I love! I'd love to be an art collector...
What can you not stand?
Dirt…I'm a little big OCD when it comes to sharing things with people but I'm getting much better.
Any exciting fashion/modelling/acting plans for 2013?
Well I'm a spokesmodel for Gothic Lolita Wigs (http://www.gothiclolitawigs.com) and we have been collaborating together to come up with their first venture in hair extensions. It's called the Pixie Collection and there will be hair buns, ponytails and clip on fringes! I'm very excited about it! It's been postponed for such a long time now but I think we will finally get it up in the new year!

Also look out for some wintery themed shoots!

Well it's fair to say that this girl most definitely has some serious style...and if you're anything like me you might have some serious wardrobe envy now!  Whether Lolita Fashion is for you or not, you should definitely take on board her tips for photo perfection...'think of baby rabbits' (dont you just love her?)!
I'd like to say a massive thank you to the gorgeous Pixie Late for her time and permission to use her photos.
