I rock a lot of polka dots

"I brake for birds. I rock a lot of polka dots. I have touched glitter in the last 24 hours. I spend my entire day talking to children. And I find it fundamentally strange that you’re not a dessert person. It freaks me out. I’m sorry that I don’t talk like Murphy Brown. And I hate your pants suit. I wish it had ribbons on it or something just to make it slightly cuter but that doesn’t mean I’m not smart and tough and strong."- Jess

If you're a huge 'New Girl' fan this scene was when Jess stood up to Julia and one of those rare moments where all the girlie-girls of the world reunited and rejoiced as they too were telling themselves- "Yeah I've touched glitter recently and yeah I do rock a lot of polka dots! and it's OK!".

It's no secret I too am one of those girls who wears cute prints on my clothes,  I have cuddly toys on my bed, I own a cute iphone case, I break into song quite often, I get sad when I see roadkill by the side of the road, I cry at a really good emotional advert on television (The Apple Facetime one anyone? When they guy is in the army?....anyone? OK just me!), I have a lot of Disney on my ipod, I enjoy watching The Kardashians and I do in fact rock a lot of polka dots. I've got quite the collection of polka dotted garments....and you know what? There's always room for some more!

This dress was a lovely gift from my sister Amber on my birthday this year and I have already worn it lots but never really taken the time to document it. I decided to keep it quite simple and casual this day for work wearing my jellies once again! (they really do go with everything!). This dress is a little on the shorter side which is a pain as I do prefer my dresses to reach just above the knee in an ideal world. How do you like your length on dresses? Or does it depend on what kind of occasion?

Shrinking Violet

It's fair to say that today's blog post wasn't going to exist until I had a sudden change of heart. These photos have been sitting on my camera for a few days now after I wasn't initially happy with them. I drove to a pretty little woodland and I don't know what was going on with me that day, but my camera skills and general face poses were all off. Does that sound totally ridiculous? We all have off days when us girls hate every photo- delete, delete, delete...oh no what have I done I have no photos?!

Lots of you ask who takes my photos and majority of time it's just me and my friend Miranda (my tripod!). If I'm somewhere more public it's usually Jon when we have a day off together. I'm forever practising with my photography and always striving to get better shots. It's tough because I on one hand like to get creative and drum up something magical and lovely. I have a zillion ideas in my head how I would like something to look but just can't quite seem to always nail it in terms of focus and aperture etc.

I am trying to get the hang of shooting in manual mode on my DLSR which is a bit adventurous but it's something which gets better results. I'm not going to lie I do get it wrong lots of time. Which I know is all part of learning but when I look back I get frustrated as I am a perfectionist.

Dress- Diksi
Flower Crown- Claires Accessories
Mary Janes- Ebay

Anyway back to today's dress. WOW. Where do I begin to stress how much I am in love with dress? The first time I had the pleasure of seeing this beauty of dress by Diksi was on the very wonderful Miss Paige Joanna. In one of her most beautiful posts- (aren't they all beautiful?) 'She Wakes up confused'When she decided to have a blog sale (which is seriously worth checking out while there's some gems left! ie: her mermaid shoot dress) I was delighted to see the magical purple dress was in there and I quickly snapped it up. She really does have the most beautiful taste in clothing and some of the most fantastic personal styling on the net.

The minute I tried this on almost instantly put me into a magical, fairy kind of state. I felt calm, magical and girlie. I felt like I wanted to break into a classical ballet number with this beautiful - and I might add glittered tulle skirt. It really is the most breathtaking dress and I plan to wear this again later this month to a friends wedding. I kept it really simple and pure with minimal makeup with just some barbie coloured lipstick by MAC 'Pink Nouveau' a shade I haven't worn in a very long time and I feel it suited this outfit perfectly.

Hoping you have a lovely day!

Dreaming in jelly

Flower Crown- Wild Flower
Dress- Handmade
Jelly Shoes- JuJu from ASOS
Ankle socks- Primark
I am so giddy with excitement at the arrival of my Juju Jelly shoes! I was toying with the idea of getting a pair this Summer for ages and the other day in an impulsive moment I just clicked the buy button and bought them. I really am going through a pale blue phase at the moment, I just can't seem to get enough of it. It's one of those colours that is perfect for summertime and not one I get to wear often in the colder months. For me it was between getting the glitter pair or the blue and in the end I went with the blue and I am so pleased with them.

I was a huge jelly shoe lover when I was younger back in the 90's with a trusty pair or 2, or 3, or 4, or maybe even 5 from Worlworths (may you R.I.P). To this very day I look back at old photos and I'd be wearing them with tights (even black ones? really?!) and my favourite had to be my pink glitter pair I had.

I wore these all day at work and they were insanely comfortable with a pair of ankle socks. I received dozens of compliments from customers on my outfit that day which was nice as I did have a moment of- maybe I'm looking a bit over the top today? Nah!

I will say if you are going to wear them all day long that socks are a must as jelly shoes do like to get a little bit sweaty after long periods of time (any true jelly lover will know this!).

I'd love to know what your thoughts on Jelly shoes are? are you a lover or a hater?

x Rebecca

Wish you were here

I've just got back from the most amazing weekend away with my favourite boys/ men in the world. Jonathan and I took my two younger brothers away for a caravan holiday by the seaside down in Brean, but with brief a stop over in Weston-Super-Mare first. We couldn't have planned a better time to go as the weather was simply scorching hot and I do believe it was the hottest day of the year so far in England. It's fair to say Rebecca Tan actually caught a tan that day! ha ha (see what a did there?...oh yes I did!)

Armed with our buckets and spades and Poundland water guns the boys and I were all set. We spent the entire afternoon making sandcastles, swimming in the sea, hitting the ice cream stand and firing the water guns at the remarkably aggressive and fearless seagulls- which was hysterical! oops!

It really was quite surreal sitting on a British beach in a bikini; this I can say I haven't done for many, many years and it was simply marvelous. I was going for a retro style this day with my classic La Senza Bikini and a little dash of red lipstick. Everything in our bag ended up covered in sand- which also included my camera eeek! Sand aside it was a simply perfect day.

Have you been to beach yet this Summer? If so what are your beach essentials?

A View from the bridge

It feels so good to be back home with my family in my hometown of Bristol for the past week or so. It can be incredibly hard living away from all my family and girlfriends. I do miss out on so much when I'm away. There have been times in the past when I've just wanted to pack it all in and move back home when times have got hard with work. The constant support of my Mummy (yes I call her Mummy she HATES being called 'Mum') over the years has been amazing. Always telling me to keep at it, keep pursuing my dream, stay strong and keep believing in myself. I'm so glad I did because we all have moments of weakness and if I moved home I would of never of have had experienced all the best things that have ever happened to me. I know in my heart that I am in the right place to be for my career and I've just got to continue to keep pushing and working hard.

Yesterday was a scorching hot day outside and with the help of my baby brother Trin (Who's 12 by the way!) he took my outfit shots while we were hunting down lots of the Gromit's around town.

Clifton Village has got to be my favourite area in Bristol- it's quaint, has the most beautiful houses, trendy little shops but notoriously difficult when it comes to finding a parking space! I kept it quite simple with minimal jewellery for this outfit. This cropped top from Primark I bought in a while ago in both black and white and it has been such an essential for me and my wardrobe in the summer months. It goes with simply everything. Wearing it with my elasticated skirts and I just tuck it in with a waist belt and done!

Top- Primark
Skirt- Forever 21
Belt- Camden Market
Bag- Nine West
Shoes- New Look
Glasses- Borrowed from Sister!

A big massive thank you to my baby brother Trin who took today's photos! He's only 12 years old and I've been teaching him a bit about photography (well what I try to create in photographs and what's important to me) and he did a fabulous job. So proud of you baby! Thank you! x

Pick your own

YES! another gorgeous day of sunshine and hot enough to wear a play/ romper/ jump suit! Jonathan and I had been planning to go strawberry picking for ages now and when I finished work the other day we set off. What an epic fail that was! I think I tempted fate wearing the strawberry print, only for us to arrive at the gates and for a giant sign to say 'NO STRAWBERRIES'. Both letting out a cry of 'nooooooo!' and a few other less choice words...naturally.

What do you mean there's no strawberries left to pick? Grow some more!? Don't you know I'm a strawberry fan? See look I'm wearing a strawberry suit. Gutted.

There were other things to pick such as rhubarb, blackberries, runner beans....but that's just not the same really. (My true inner 8 year old spoilt brat coming out here!). I was gutted as I have never been strawberry picking in my life- It's on my life list (that and milking a cow at some point!).

To cheer ourselves up we walked next door to the local garden centre to check out the Aqautica section. Which has always been my favourite part of a good garden centre- checking out the fish! Giant £90.00 Koi anyone? That instantly lifted our spirits- It's fair to say Jon was equally as gutted he had been waiting around all day for me to come home and go. After wondering around the garden centre we did actually come across some 'plant your own' strawberries! Hurray!

I simply adore this playsuit that I picked up for absolutely nothing last year in the ASDA George sale. I have never bought anything before from their clothing section but this print is perfect and it's one I won't be throwing away any time soon. I was seriously impressed with the fit and design of it having a draw string waist and pretty criss cross back detail.

Strawberry Playsuit- ASDA Geoege (someone on ebay is selling one here!)
adscarf- Belt from a dress
Satchel- Camden Market
