Cute as a button

Blouse- Forever 21
Skirt- The Cinnamon Slipper (handmade by MOI!)
Shoes- Office
So all those hours of sewing and snipping have paid off and I have made my very own skirt. I can't get enough of it, having already worn it 3 times since...too much? NEVER! ha ha. I decided on black fabric as I knew it would go with everything this chilly time of year. Since I made my skirt I have bought a beautiful novelty bungalow sewing box, some more fabric and as we speak I am on my second skirt. I have most definitely caught the sewing bug!

This is my brand new necklace which is a tribute to my first ever dog Coco the Dachshund (in my opinion dachshunds are the best dogs ever! One day Coco disappeared and my mum told me she had gone to a big farm with lots of other dogs...I hope wherever she is she's a very happy dog!) I picked the necklace up at a trade jewellery fair the other week from a brand new up-and-coming designer. It was too cute to pass by...it had to come home with me!

What I am loving about my new hobby is the sheer amount of possibilities.
I have always had a very acquired taste in my styling and in particular I am rather partial to a quirky print....
and sometimes the dresses I imagine in my head don't actually exist in the retail world.
ie: lobster print, jelly fish print, whale, dinosaur print dress....

Surely there must be a gap in the market for this kind of fashion?
Maybe not...

Well you know what? I guess I'm just going to have to make them myself!

Stitch 'n' bitch

As lots of you know one of my goals for 2013 was to start making my own clothes. I've made shopper bags and pillows in the past but I really wanted to get serious and create my own clothing. Almost as if she knew, my darling sister Amber blessed me with the gift of her machine and sewing kit for Christmas.
This post is all thanks to her; she gave me the boost I needed; she inspired me to try my hand at making my own clothes; even the title 'stich n' bitch' was Amber's idea!
Armed with a box of goodies and a machine I set to work...but where to start?  As it turns out, making clothes is a lot more complicated than you'd think.  I realised I wouldn't be able to blag and muddle my way through, so I went to John Lewis, looked through the paper patterns and decided that a skirt was most
likely the easiest thing I could start off with.
Upon opening up the paper pattern I was extremely excited and couldn't wait to get started....little did I know it would be a while 'til I could actually get snipping and stitching.
I did have to read through the instructions several times until I actually understood what was going on, what meant what and which went where and why!
I had resigned myself to failure for my first attempt and so chose a simple little print of buttons for my skirt (I didn't want to spend a fortune on a fabric only to go and ruin it!), but once I got the hang of it Ioved it!  Gradually watching the pieces come intricately together to make a whole, the sound of the machine humming rhythmically in the background...it was almost hypnotic and so much fun!

So after several hours- and I mean hours and hours- I finally finished my skirt.  I am so proud of it! It really is such an overwhelming feeling of accomplishment! I am so so so thrilled and cannot recommend to you enough that you make your own clothes.
This really is the beginning of something exciting and new for me and I am HOOKED! I cannot wait to make more!
TA DA! and here it is! my beautiful button skirt!!!

Red bows in the snow

Dress- Vintage Coat- River Island Boots- Vintage Satchel- Camden Market
So the snow has hit England big time overnight! It's ridiculous how as a country we're  never really prepared for it; we have a few hours of snow and the news call it "The 18 Hour MEGABLIZZARD!" and everything comes to a standstill! Trains are delayed, roads are closed, and nothing works properly...but on the bright side I am loving the brilliant photos I've seen from fellow fashion bloggers!
Instagram goes crazy with beautiful snowy photos; I for one am guilty for this (it's got to be done hasn't it?)! As a blogger I am always grateful for an interesting backdrop to my outfits; I love the way snow blankets the mundane and renders it beautiful.  I picked this dress up from the last

If you live near Kent I highly recommend going; it's always a must in my diary. Come to think of it, the next one is SOON! eeeek! Can't wait!!  I always- and I mean ALWAYS- find something amazing whenever I go. The quality of stalls there is fantastic, the cakes are great and there's always a group of retro 40's singers singing along while you shop....what more could you want from a vintage fair?!

Is it snowing where you are? Have fun in the snow all!!

Eskimo Kisses

Today in beautiful Kent it began to snow! Which means to me only one thing....
ESKIMO COAT TIME!
I found this vintage coat about 3 years ago in a vintage shop and simply fell in love with it. I adore the embroidery, the furry hood and the toasty warm insides...it's been my faithful snow coat for all these years, providing me with the ultimate combination of heat and cuteness!

I picked up
this black play suit from Topshop on Oxford Street in the sales..teamed up with my Topshop horsey blouse and vintage boots I was all set for this winters day (which- I might add- was -2 outside).
Coat- Vintage
Blouse- Topshop
Playsuit-Topshop
Boots- Vintage
Hat- Urban Outfitters
Errrrmmmmm the downside was walking around the park trashed my boots.....big style!
Alas, the less glamorous side of things.
These are my penguin gloves/mittens I got for Christmas

Roses are red

Already a week into 2013 and it's feeling completely different. A chance to start again, get excited about what this year may bring and the beginning of all things new. I have a brand new diary (Christmas gift from Jon) to fill with my deepest thoughts, dreams and goals for my year, just like I do every year.
Do you keep a diary? I have kept a written diary every year since 2009 and I highly recommend it. Yes, there are times when I'm extremely busy and don't write anything for ages, then when I've had a brain wave or an exciting memory I jot it down. Or it might be I'll print out a load of recent Instagram shots and stick them in.
I love looking back through them sometimes and laughing at some of the crazy things that have happened; it's wonderfully nostalgic and can be incredibly therapeutic.
The dress I'm wearing today is from ASOS.  I have had it for such a long time and it always gets compliments whenever I wear it. It's unusual shape, the stunning colours and floatiness makes it a wardrobe favourite of mine with boots in the autumn/winter time.
I will always remember this day as the day Jon and I went for a drive to find somewhere exciting to shoot this outfit....drove for miles...no where inspirational...bleak, wet, horrible scenery and ended up driving back home and shooting literately across the road from where we live! Typical! hahah
