Glorious Gingham

Wow, now it's really starting to feel like summer. For me, the turning point is when I stop wearing nude tights with outfits and brave the bare legs. I went back to my hometown of Bristol last week and it was simply wonderful all weekend. I got to spend some quality time with my family and managed to squeeze a meet-up with the lovely Stephanie. We always have a good catch up on life and I love hearing all about her Disney wedding plans- yep, she's getting married in Orlando Florida!

I've already worn this dress several times but been so busy at taking the time to photograph it. It's from Primark- they have absolutely nailed it this year with their collections and I have been so impressed with a lot of the stuff. I have the pink version of this dress in a skirt which I have loved since early spring and when they released photos of this dress I couldn't wait to snap it up. It finally arrived at my local Primark in May just in time for my holiday.

I simply love this wonderful skirt Steph is wearing from Matalan teamed with a topshop top and Mark Jacob sunnies. We met up on a lovely sunny Sunday morning took some snaps in Clifton- which is by far the most beautiful part of Bristol. Had a little wander around the Clifton arcade looking at the cute little shops and headed to Rocotillos for lunch. Which is coming now some sort of tradition whenever we meet up- milkshakes and a stack of pancakes. Massive thank you to Steph for taking some wonderful snaps and her wonderful company as always. x

Monica's Vintage Fair June

It's been simply forever since I've attended Monica's Vintage Fair. I must admit to being a workaholic as I work pretty much every weekend, and as a result haven't had an opportunity to attend my favourite vintage fair for quite some time.

It's quite wonderful to see how much bigger and better it's got over time and the organiser Claire really does deserve every bit of success because the fair is just fantastic. For me a good vintage fair consists of three main things: 1. Atmosphere 2. Quality stalls 3. Good cake. I'm sure other people have different priorities but those do it for me every time.

The venue has now moved to a bigger and more spacious location in Gravesend and the lighting is just perfect for seeing the vintage clothing in all its glory. The Medway Lindy hoppers were in full swing doing their Lindy hopping which is always a joy to watch (and which reminds me, I really should start going again!)

I set myself a budget this time and vowed to only buy things I truly loved and would wear. I do have the tendency to buy novelty vintage items that I only wear on certain occasions, leaving me with a collection of once-worn, inevitably neglected attire, destined for one of the three realms of fashion obscurity: loft, boot fair or eBay.

I love sellers that have beautiful displays and make browsing easy to see and discover. It's all about presentation and the stalls didn't disappoint this time around.

This little vintage tin really stood out for me and I just knew I had to have it and that it would make a lovely tin for holding all my bobby pins. The seller took my complete surprise when she said she knew me from my blog and was a reader. Ah how truly wonderful and flattering (this never happens!) and she even gave a lovely little discount too! She had the most lovely display of vintage curiosities and clothing and has an eBay store here.

As I was saying: cake- now, Claire makes the cake herself and- no exaggeration- her Victoria sponge is best I have ever tasted in my life. 'Fresh cream and homemade jam' she says is her secret and 'beating the butter for quite a while'! I have it every time I go to the fair and it never lets me down. I also opted for a second slice of cake on the way out and went for the lemon meringue cake which was 'just like the pie....but in a cake'. Jon and I shared it when I got home and it was absolutely delicious.

If you are lucky enough to live in the Kent area a Monica visit is a must. The best advice I would give you is to arrive early (the good stuff can go fast), bring cash, a cheeky haggle is worth a shot, try the Victoria sponge cake, join in with some dancing and have a great time!

I carried a watermelon?

Ah who else watched Dirty Dancing on TV the other day? That film makes me feel so nostalgic and takes me back to days of when me and my sisters would sit about on the weekend and watch it. Dirty Dancing, Grease, Weekend at Bernies 2 and Clueless were the movies of my childhood. I can quote it all day long "Spaghetti arms!" and the soundtrack is brilliant. It never gets old and the end scene still gives me butterflies till this very day.

It would seem the fashion world has gone completely bananas- wait! Watermelons!- (Nope doesn't have the same ring to it)....for all things watermelon. I simply adore it as a print and having darker hair it definitely seems to go extremely well with the colours. This little beaut I found on Ebay? Which I couldn't quite believe as whenever you type in 'watermelon dress' into the search bar it usually results in a bunch of dresses with a 'watermelon' colour which is incredibly frustrating. Then behold I found my dream dress from a lady who hand makes a load of dresses. This dress was originally larger on top and she very kindly altered it for me.

These photos were taken after I finished work last week and as outside was still bright and lovely me and Jonathan seized the moment and found a lovely little spot in Kentish Town. The length of the dress couldn't be more perfect as I do tend to prefer my dresses for work on the more longer side. Teamed with Gill's (Jon's mum) cardigan that she found in a charity shop the other week completed the look. Some days it's nice to give the feet a rest so I opted for flats this day. I've got my eye on even more watermelon stuff at the moment, how much is too much?

Wildest moments

So this is the last instalment from my holiday outfits. It's been so lovely looking back at our adventures in Greece, but my tan is officially fading and the holiday blues have well and truly kicked in. This series of photos was taken in the beautiful part of the island called Fiscardo. We loved it so much there- especially the restaurant 'Fridas'- that we went back again on the last day for our last meal. (Thank you to Jonathan driving back around those scary cliffs! He's terrified of heights). I had the most divine scallops wrapped in bacon with garlic, accompanied by a lovely salad- with a side of chips naturally! We sat right beside the water where you could see all the fish swimming around hoping to catch some crumbs of bread that the restaurant customers would occasionally throw in. The architecture around Fiscardo was beautifully vibrant and quintessentially Greek with flowers surrounding them.

If you're lucky enough to visit the island, then Fiscardo is definitely worth the trip. We loved roaming the streets and hunting for gifts to take back home. I hope you've enjoyed just some of my Greek adventure. It really is the most beautiful place and I can't recommend it enough if you're looking for a relaxing and romantic trip away.
